AI complicates fake image detection

SCOTLAND (Lord Media): The advancement of artificial intelligence has made it increasingly difficult to detect fake images, but new research suggests that focusing on specific indicators can help individuals master this skill. Dr. Claire Sutherland from the University of Aberdeen and Professor Amy Dawel from the Australian National University collaborated with researchers from the UK, Australia, and Canada on this study.

Participants were trained to focus on six characteristics: unusual uniformity, facial proportions, extraordinary beauty, lack of unique features, absence of emotional expressions, and missing memorable personality traits.

The study emphasized that a combination of various characteristics is essential for identifying fake images, as no single indicator provides 100% proof.

After training, participants’ identification accuracy increased from an average of 40% to nearly 80%, with some individuals achieving almost 100% correct results.

Experts suggest that with proper training, humans can better identify AI-generated images; however, as artificial intelligence continues to evolve, this challenge may become more complex.
