Peshawar court halts deportation of Afghan journalists

PESHAWAR (Lord Media): The Peshawar High Court has ordered that two Afghan journalists not be deported from Pakistan. The court directed the federal government to resolve the petitioners’ cases within 60 days.

The court stated that Syed Ehsanullah Salehi and Syed Munir Ahmad entered Pakistan on legal visas and are currently residing here. Their applications for resettlement in France are under consideration, and the French embassy has verified their cases.

Despite their legal stay, the petitioners face the threat of arrest and deportation, which restricts their freedom of movement, the court noted.

The decision further instructed that the government should not arrest or deport the petitioners to Afghanistan for 60 days. If the government cannot decide within the stipulated time, the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior should issue temporary permits to the petitioners.
