PTA issues 47 broadband licenses in 2023

ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued 47 class internet service licenses this year to expand broadband infrastructure across the country.

According to PTA documents, the first license was issued in February, followed by 12 in March, 14 in May, and 20 new licenses in June 2026.

Lahore received the highest number of licenses with seven, while Sargodha came in second. Faisalabad and Islamabad each received four licenses, with licenses also granted in South Waziristan and Lower Chitral.

These licenses are expected to enhance competition and improve internet access in rural and underserved areas, thereby promoting digital connectivity.

Additionally, the licensing process is anticipated to aid local investment, create job opportunities, and boost the digital economy.
