Kuwait (Lord Media): A new medical study suggests that completely eliminating sugar from one’s diet could be detrimental to health. Conducted at Kuwait’s Dasman Diabetes Institute, the research indicates that total sugar avoidance may negatively impact gut and metabolic health.
In the study, mice were fed a low-fat diet without sugar, while another group received a sugar-containing diet. Over 16 weeks, mice on the sugar-free diet experienced impaired insulin sensitivity, poor glucose control, disrupted gut bacteria balance, and increased risk of liver fat accumulation.
Researchers emphasized that removing sugar entirely from the diet could harm gut and metabolic health, highlighting the importance of balanced dietary choices.
The study reveals that the effects of completely abstaining from sugar had not been previously examined, and these findings could aid future dietary recommendations.
