First rabies case in 2026, woman dies

Karachi (Lord Media): A 42-year-old woman from Jacobabad has died in the first reported rabies case of 2026 after being bitten by a mongoose.

According to a spokesperson from Indus Hospital, the woman, who was bitten by a mongoose, succumbed to rabies. She was a resident of Jacobabad.

Aftab Gohar, manager of the rabies program, stated that the woman was bitten two weeks ago but did not seek treatment, leading to this first reported case.

The Indus Hospital spokesperson noted that there have been nine rabies-related deaths at the hospital this year.
