Islamabad High Court lifts stay on federal and police recruitment

The Islamabad High Court has officially lifted the stay on recruitment in police and federal institutions, according to a written order issued on Friday.

A larger bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, and Justice Inam Amin Minhas revoked the injunction that had been imposed on August 1, 2024.

The court directed the Inspector General of Islamabad Police to initiate a new recruitment process in accordance with existing policies. The order noted that the Advocate General of Islamabad had raised objections regarding the maintainability of the petition, while petitioner Barrister Yawar Gardezi requested time to present arguments. The Advocate General cited security concerns arising from the halt in police recruitment.

The court further ruled that candidates who have become overage due to the delay will also be given an opportunity in the fresh recruitment cycle. However, all new recruitments will remain subject to the final outcome of the case.
