Stents are not permanent cure for heart disease

LAHORE (Lord Media): Implanting stents in heart arteries is a crucial step for many patients, but experts warn that the risk of heart attacks persists even after the procedure. While stents open up blocked arteries, they do not cure the underlying heart disease.

According to cardiologists, stents only open the affected artery but do not treat the condition that causes fat deposits to block arteries. If patients neglect their health, new arteries can be affected.

Dr. Anshul Kumar Jain from CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, states that stents are not a permanent solution but part of a comprehensive treatment. They restore blood flow but do not prevent fat accumulation.

Experts indicate that smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, unhealthy diets, or negligence in medication can lead to new blockages.

They also note that modern stents are effective, but heart attacks can recur due to reasons like restenosis or stent thrombosis.

Experts advise patients to regularly take prescribed medications, quit smoking, adopt a balanced diet, and make exercise a routine.

Doctors recommend seeking immediate medical attention if unusual symptoms appear after stent placement.

Experts emphasize that stents do not provide complete protection against heart disease, so adopting a healthy lifestyle is the most effective way to keep the heart healthy.
