KP launches free Wi-Fi project across public facilities

PESHAWAR (Lord Media): Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, officially inaugurated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Open Wi-Fi project. In its initial phase, free Wi-Fi will be provided at public hospitals and transport locations in Peshawar. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Minister announced plans to extend this service to all public universities and colleges in the province.

The Chief Minister stated that key government locations in Peshawar will be equipped with this facility in the first phase, while the project will be expanded to divisional headquarters including Abbottabad, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan in the next phase.

He highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is advancing towards 70 to 80 percent digital governance and the government is working on making public services paperless in phases. He emphasized that digital facilities will be made accessible to every citizen in line with Imran Khan’s vision.

Afridi noted that the internet is creating new employment and business opportunities for the youth, and it is the state’s responsibility to provide economic opportunities to them. He welcomed the growing trend of e-commerce in Pakistan.

Criticizing slow internet speeds and outages, the Chief Minister condemned these issues as detrimental to the youth. He further mentioned that basic facilities are still lacking in merged districts, where even mobile services are unavailable.

Expressing concern over the economic situation, he stressed the need to provide business and employment opportunities to the public. He stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government prioritizes public service and believes that the fiscal year 2026-27 will be a year of peace, development, and prosperity for the province.
