ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): The unsafe use of social media by children has heightened social, psychological, and security risks. According to a U.S. study, excessive social media use among children is leading to poor sleep, anxiety, depression, and academic challenges.
The study indicates that excessive screen time at an early age negatively impacts children’s mental, social, and physical development. Cybercriminals and organized fraud groups on social media platforms are influencing young minds.
Various countries are considering restrictions or specific content regulations on social media to alleviate children’s mental stress. In Pakistan, the population of children under 16 is approximately 109.8 million, with a significant number being mobile users.
Experts suggest that regulations and laws are being considered to provide better protection for children on social media. Incidents of suicide among children have been reported due to applications like Blue Whale, Momo Challenge, and PUBG.
