Punjab CM alerts agencies on monsoon, heatwave risks

LAHORE (Lord Media): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all relevant agencies to remain vigilant in light of monsoon, heatwave, and urban flooding concerns. She stated that there is a risk of rising temperatures and urban flooding from July to September.

In a meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted that temperatures could reach up to 52 degrees Celsius in some cities, with forecasts of above-normal rainfall in certain areas. She mentioned that the early warning system has been activated to ensure timely forecasts.

Maryam Nawaz instructed all agencies to stay active in dealing with potential flood situations and emphasized the continuation of rescue drills. She noted that lessons have been learned from last year’s floods and preventive measures have been implemented.

The Chief Minister has instructed the issuance of timely advisories to the public regarding heatwaves and weather conditions, advising citizens, especially the elderly, women, and children, to avoid going outside.

Maryam Nawaz announced the launch of the “Apna Ghar, Mehfooz Ghar” program to prevent incidents like Kahna, offering interest-free loans for safer housing.
