Two new polio cases confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Two new cases of poliovirus have been reported from Bannu and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to health officials.

The National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, confirmed the presence of wild poliovirus in laboratory tests. The affected children include a five-month-old and a two-year-old girl.

With these latest cases, the total number of polio infections in Pakistan during the current year has risen to three. Earlier, the first case of 2026 was reported from Sujawal district in Sindh.

Health authorities said that the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) plans to launch a targeted nationwide anti-polio campaign later this month in selected districts. During the drive, around 19 million children will be administered polio vaccine drops to strengthen immunity and prevent further spread of the virus.
