Sources in the Ministry of Information Technology said that, in view of the tense situation in the Middle East, the government has completed preparations to deal with a potential petroleum crisis.
According to the sources, a quota for petrol will be set for citizens using private vehicles. The initiative aims to regulate fuel distribution through a monitored and technology-driven mechanism.
The Ministry of IT has completed testing of mobile phones to be provided at petrol pumps, along with the application developed for fuel management. Details of the project have been forwarded to the Cabinet Division.
Sources further said that each mobile device to be supplied to petrol pumps will cost around Rs72,000, and the funding for these devices will be provided by oil marketing companies.
