Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Safe City Headquarters in Islamabad and chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on Phase II of the Safe City project.
During the meeting, it was decided that all ongoing work under Phase II would be completed by May 30. The minister directed officials to ensure timely completion of the project.
Mohsin Naqvi said the Central Command and Control System in Islamabad would be upgraded, with integration of policing, traffic management and civic services. He added that a modern system would be introduced to improve traffic management and crime control, stressing that all available resources are being utilised to make Islamabad a safer city.
The meeting also approved a new design for the Safe City Headquarters. Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the minister on the project, stating that 75 percent of the work on Phase II has already been completed.
The briefing highlighted that installation of modern cameras and monitoring systems is underway to enhance public safety, while 152 kilometres of fibre optic cable has already been laid. It was further informed that work would be completed by May 20, after which testing would begin.
The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Agha, DG FIA Usman Anwar, IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi and DG Safe City Haroon Joiya, along with other senior officials.
