Pakistan, Romania ports sign MoU to boost maritime cooperation

A historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Karachi Port Trust and the Port of Constanța in Romania to enhance maritime cooperation, trade links, and economic relations between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Chairman KPT Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed and General Manager of the Port of Constanța Mihai Teodorescu. The ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of Pakistan in Romania and Romania in Pakistan, along with other diplomatic and government officials from both sides.

Under the MoU, both ports will collaborate in areas including port operations, engineering, technology, finance, maritime education, and the exchange of information. The partnership aims to effectively utilise the strategic importance of both ports as key regional trade gateways.

On the occasion, the KPT chairman highlighted ongoing efforts to improve port services, while Romanian representatives emphasized Constanța’s role as a major European trade hub.

Both sides described the agreement as timely and significant in the context of the evolving global trade landscape. Concluding the ceremony, Dr. Dan Stoenescu reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to further strengthening maritime cooperation with Pakistan.
