PSO and Oman Trading International explore additional cargoes to boost supply

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik held a meeting with H.E. Fahad Bin Sulaiman Bin Khalaf Alkharusi to discuss the evolving regional energy situation and avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

The Federal Minister highlighted the long-standing and cordial relations between Pakistan and Oman, rooted in shared history, mutual respect, and strong people-to-people ties. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expand the bilateral energy partnership and explore new areas of collaboration.

During the meeting, Minister Malik briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s efforts to diversify energy imports and ensure supply resilience, including exploring alternative routes outside the Strait of Hormuz in response to changing regional dynamics.

Ambassador Alkharusi welcomed Pakistan’s diversification initiatives and assured support for enhancing Pakistan’s energy security. The Federal Minister expressed optimism that Oman would consider Pakistan’s request for preferential energy cargoes, which the ambassador responded to positively.

In March, Pakistan imported three petrol cargoes and one diesel cargo from Omani ports, with two additional petrol cargoes scheduled later in the month. The discussion also focused on enhanced cooperation in the upstream sector, including exploration and production, as well as collaboration in oil and gas development projects.

It was noted that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Oman Trading International (OQT) are engaged in discussions to explore additional oil cargoes to meet Pakistan’s growing energy demand. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Pakistan-Oman energy cooperation and strengthening strategic ties for mutual benefit.
