Petrol pump owners warn nationwide shutdown over unresolved issues

The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) has warned of shutting down thousands of petrol pumps across the country if its concerns are not addressed, escalating tensions over petroleum sector policy and pricing mechanisms.

In a statement issued by the association, it said a formal request has been sent to Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik seeking an immediate meeting. It added that a similar letter was also sent on March 6, but no response has been received so far.

The association stated that the petroleum sector is facing serious operational, financial, and policy-related challenges, including pricing uncertainties and abrupt policy changes. It urged the government to involve industry stakeholders in policymaking to ensure stability and transparency.

Representing around 14,000 to 15,000 petrol pump owners nationwide, the association said its concerns require urgent attention. It warned that if demands are not met, it would be compelled to shut down fuel stations across the country.

The statement cautioned that such a move could trigger a severe fuel supply crisis in Pakistan, adding that responsibility for any resulting disruption would lie with the Ministry of Petroleum.
