Authorities said the process of renaming the stadium’s various enclosures will begin after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 Cup tournament.
The move aims to pay tribute to the legendary squad that secured Pakistan’s first and only ODI World Cup victory under the leadership of former captain Imran Khan.
Members of the victorious team included Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Aaqib Javed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saleem Malik, Ijaz Ahmed, Aamir Sohail, Ramiz Raja, Mushtaq Ahmed, Iqbal Sikander, Moin Khan, Zahid Fazal and Wasim Haider.
Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider said the enclosures of Imran Khan Cricket Stadium are being named after players of the 1992 World Cup-winning team following approval from the provincial government. He added that practical work on the project will begin after the completion of the T20 tournament.
Officials said the initiative is intended to preserve the legacy of Pakistan’s World Cup triumph and to inspire young cricketers visiting the stadium.
