New Zealand sets sights on T20 World Cup 2028

After falling short in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against India, the New Zealand cricket team has already begun preparations for the next edition in 2028.

The T20 World Cup 2028 will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, offering the Black Caps a fresh opportunity to claim the title.

Kiwi coach Rob Walter expressed optimism despite the recent setback, saying that the young players are determined to succeed in the next tournament. “There is a clear hunger for victory within the squad. Everyone will work hard to be part of the 2028 team, and this time we will give our best to win the trophy,” he said.

Walter added that reaching the final itself was a proud achievement, though the team was disappointed by not performing at their best in the decisive match. “It has been a bittersweet experience. We are happy to have reached the final but saddened not to have lifted the trophy,” he said.

The defeat marks the fourth time in the past 11 years that New Zealand has fallen short in a limited-overs World Cup final, highlighting both the resilience and the challenges facing the team in major tournaments.
