Tehran seeks no conflict with regional states, Iran’s president tells Pakistan PM

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Tehran has no intention of entering into conflict with countries in the region, emphasizing Iran’s commitment to stability and cooperation with its neighbors amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to a statement reported by Iranian state media citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, the two leaders held a telephone conversation to discuss the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel and its implications for regional security.

During the call, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran seeks peaceful relations with regional states and does not wish to expand the conflict. However, he said Iranian strikes on U.S. bases were carried out within the framework of legitimate self-defense.

The Iranian president warned that any military base used to launch attacks against Iran would be considered a legitimate target. He also said Tehran had previously engaged in negotiations with Washington to resolve disputes but was subjected to what he described as U.S.–Israeli attacks while talks were still underway.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for his part, condemned the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and expressed solidarity with the Iranian government and people. He also underscored Pakistan’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation among Muslim countries in the region.

The conversation comes amid heightened regional tensions following military exchanges involving Iran, the United States and Israel, raising concerns about broader instability across the Middle East. — LORD
