Popular Bollywood actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has faced racial stereotyping during a recent visit to Australia, where he was performing as part of his global tour.
According to international media reports, the most notable aspect of the incident was not the racial remarks themselves, but Dosanjh’s composed and dignified response, which earned him widespread praise from fans across the world.
Recalling the episode, Dosanjh shared that when he arrived in Australia, airport staff stopped him briefly to take photographs. Following his arrival, several media agencies published his pictures, prompting a wave of online comments based on racial stereotypes. “When I came to Australia, a few agencies published my pictures, and someone sent me the comments people were making. They were saying things like, ‘A new Uber driver has arrived’ or ‘The new 7–11 store employee is here,’” he said.
Dosanjh said he has come across many such racial remarks, but believes the world should be united without borders. Despite the negativity, he responded with humility and respect. “I have no objection to being compared with a taxi or truck driver,” he said.
He added that he holds deep respect for hardworking labourers. “It does not hurt me to be compared to taxi or truck drivers. I truly respect working-class people because they are the ones who keep the world moving. If there were no truck drivers, even bread wouldn’t reach your home. I am not angry, and my love is for everyone — even for those who make such comments about me.”
Dosanjh’s dignified stance against racism has drawn admiration from audiences globally, with many praising his message of inclusivity, respect, and unity.
