KARACHI (Lord Media): The Meteorological Department has issued the monsoon outlook for the Hindu Kush, Karakoram, and Himalayas, predicting normal rainfall in northern regions. Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to experience usual rainfall.
The department has warned that temperatures in the Hindu Kush, Karakoram, and Himalayas are likely to be above normal. The increased heat may lead to rapid glacier melting, raising the risk of floods.
Heavy rains pose a threat of landslides and mudslides in mountainous areas, with concerns of glacial lake outbursts in high and sensitive regions.
In anticipation of potential flooding, the Meteorological Department has advised communities living near rivers and streams to remain vigilant.
