Punjab braces for heatwave, sets up relief camps

LAHORE (Lord Media): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab has initiated precautionary measures in response to the anticipated increase in heatwaves and humidity due to climate change. According to the PDMA spokesperson, under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, heatwave camps and counters have been established in hospitals in potentially affected districts.

With the expectation of rising temperatures in Thal, Cholistan, and southern Punjab, efforts are underway to ensure the provision of clean water. The PDMA has dispatched smog guns to districts experiencing extreme heat, and a forecast indicates that high temperatures will persist throughout July.

To keep the public informed, 24-hour monitoring is being conducted through control rooms, which are on high alert to ensure a swift response in emergencies. Relief camps in urban areas are providing clean water, ORS, and first aid.

Mobile health teams are being mobilized to address cases of heat stroke and dehydration. The public is urged to avoid going out during peak heat hours and to increase their water intake.
