ATHENS (Lord Media): A Greek Air Force F-16 fighter jet caught fire mid-flight due to a technical malfunction, but the pilot skillfully executed an emergency landing, saving his life. The incident occurred near the tourist island of Zakynthos in Greece.
The Greek Air Force reported that the F-16 was on a routine training flight when a fire warning was triggered due to a technical fault. The pilot immediately directed the aircraft towards the nearest airbase.
The jet landed on the runway without fully deploying its landing gear, causing it to skid for several meters. Shortly after landing, the aircraft caught fire, but firefighters at the airbase quickly extinguished the flames.
According to the Greek Air Force, the pilot is safe and out of danger. A full investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the technical failure.
Following the accident, Zakynthos Airport was temporarily closed, affecting some flights. Viral social media videos show the burning aircraft and firefighters working to extinguish the blaze.
