Geneva (Lord Media): United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. During a two-day UN meeting in Geneva, Guterres stated that AI technology is developing faster than anticipated, necessitating global regulations to mitigate potential risks.
Guterres highlighted that this technology could transform economies, alter work patterns, influence election outcomes, and impact security balances. He noted that even its developers struggle to keep pace with its speed. He emphasized the need to regulate AI if it becomes too powerful.
The meeting aims not to draft an agreement but to establish principles to prevent potential AI risks. A report by a UN-supported panel of 40 experts will be reviewed during the session.
These experts will present initial governmental and independent analyses on AI during the meeting. A more comprehensive report is planned for next year’s second global UN conference.
