Heavy rain forecast for northern Pakistan

Islamabad (Lord Media): A weather system is expected to enter the northern parts of the country from tomorrow, bringing rain to Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Punjab.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in the upper regions of the Indus River from tomorrow, with forecasts also indicating rain in the upper areas of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.

The NDMA has announced that Islamabad, Potohar, and Azad Kashmir can expect heavy rain tomorrow. Similarly, an increase in rainfall intensity is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Balochistan.

There is a slight increase anticipated in the inflow of water into Tarbela and Mangla dams, along with a minor rise in the water flow of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.

Currently, there is no significant threat of widespread river flooding. However, local increases in water flow are expected in hilly streams and small rainwater channels.

There is a risk of local flooding in sensitive upper areas and hilly streams. Urban flooding and submersion of low-lying areas are also possible. Additionally, landslides are a concern in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.
