Europe (Lord Media): Over 4,000 people have died due to the ongoing severe heatwave in Europe, according to international news agencies. The intensity of the heat has led to a worrying increase in fatalities across various countries.
In France, the highest temperature in nearly 80 years was recorded last week, resulting in 2,025 deaths. The French Health Minister has confirmed these fatalities.
Spain also experienced persistent heat, with the Carlos Health Institute reporting 1,028 deaths in June. In the Netherlands, temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius from June 22 to 28, resulting in 480 deaths.
Belgium registered over 1,200 deaths between June 18 and 29. The UK is also enduring intense heat, with a third heatwave expected in some areas, prompting the Met Office to advise the public to take precautions.
Experts have warned that the unusual weather intensity and prolonged heatwaves across Europe pose a major public health challenge, with the situation likely to worsen.
