Sialkot (Lord Media): Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed concerns over the erosion of the sanctity of the teacher-student relationship in the country, citing that the educational curriculum and history have been distorted over various periods to suit the priorities of rulers and foreign powers. He stated that this has deprived the new generation of education based on accurate historical awareness and character building.
Speaking at an event, Khawaja Asif remarked that the current educational curriculum has deviated from its original essence, compromising the standards of the Pakistan Movement, subcontinent, Muslim history, and world history.
He further highlighted that history has been altered and distorted to meet the political needs of rulers and appease superpowers, resulting in students being taught facts that are not based on reality. The Defence Minister emphasized the need to align the educational system and curriculum with national requirements and societal demands to equip the new generation with accurate historical awareness, better moral values, and the ability to responsibly undertake future responsibilities.
Khawaja Asif pointed out that the curriculum being taught does not align with the country’s needs, noting that many female students do not practice medicine after obtaining medical degrees, which he termed a significant societal tragedy. He criticized politicians for lacking direction themselves, questioning how they could guide others, and stressed the importance of a curriculum that reflects national identity requirements in the region.
He added that there should be a uniform curriculum from Punjab to Gilgit-Baltistan to promote national identity, acknowledging that achieving national goals will require a long journey. The Defence Minister concluded by stating that history will always remember the battle for truth, noting that a country once known for terrorism has now emerged as a symbol of peace.
