Lahore electric tram project faces delay

Lahore (Lord Media): Lahore’s first electric tram project has encountered delays, with a route change announced once again. Canal Road has been removed from the plan, and the new proposed route will see the tram run through CBD, Gulberg, Jail Road, and Istanbul Chowk. Punjab’s Transport Minister stated that the route change was due to tree cutting on Canal Road and other technical and environmental complexities.

The Transport Minister further mentioned that the electric tram first arrived in Lahore in July 2025, followed by a test run and exhibition at Expo Center in August 2025. Initially, the plan was to operate the ‘Yellow Line’ on a 27-kilometer track from Thokar Niaz Beg to Harbanspura.

Additionally, there were considerations to run the tram through Kalma Chowk, Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road, but no final decision has been made regarding these routes.
