Islamabad (Lord Media): President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need to collectively combat narratives of hate, prejudice, and provocation. In his message on the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, he stated that hate speech poses a grave threat to peace, human dignity, and social harmony. Islam teaches mercy, tolerance, justice, moderation, and respect for humanity.
The President highlighted that in the digital age, freedom of expression comes with responsibility, and hateful content on social media promotes violence. Pakistan is a diverse society comprising various religions, sects, and cultures, and interfaith harmony must be further promoted.
Asif Ali Zardari noted that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights, religious freedom, and human dignity to every citizen. He urged religious scholars, teachers, media, civil society, and youth to play an active role in eliminating hate narratives.
The President further stated that addressing hate speech is possible through education and moral training, and differences should be resolved through mutual understanding and dialogue.
