Head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad hoc committee Tamim Iqbal has said that the previous board management did not handle the T20 World Cup issue appropriately and missed key opportunities to resolve the matter.
In an interview with Indian media, Tamim Iqbal stated that he was among the first to speak on the matter when concerns regarding the T20 World Cup emerged. He added that the former BCB administration failed to deal with the situation in the right manner, despite the International Cricket Council (ICC) showing flexibility and room for negotiation.
He said that Bangladesh should have pursued dialogue instead of allowing the matter to escalate, suggesting that some players from that World Cup squad may never get another opportunity to play in the tournament again.
“I did not like how things unfolded. We let the World Cup opportunity slip away without proper discussion,” he remarked.
Tamim also said that relations between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are now stable, adding that there are no security concerns regarding Indian tours in Bangladesh. He noted that matches between Bangladesh and India are always well attended and generate strong public interest.
Commenting on reports regarding a possible boycott of a World Cup match in solidarity with Pakistan, Tamim Iqbal declined to give a direct response, stating that he was not part of the decision-making group at the time. However, he reiterated that Bangladesh ultimately lost a valuable opportunity by not participating fully in the process.
