American actress Melissa Barrera has once again reiterated that her voice in support of Gaza and the Palestinian people cannot be silenced, even if it comes at the cost of her film career.
During a recent interview in New York, Melissa Barrera revealed that after October 2023, her public support for Palestine on social media, sharing of humanitarian links, and outspoken comments on human rights issues had significant professional consequences.
She stated that due to her activism, she was removed from the Hollywood franchise film Scream 7, while her talent agency WME also ended its representation of her.
The actress said her pro-Palestine posts were labelled by some circles as “antisemitic,” and she faced accusations of promoting hate speech. However, she strongly rejected these claims, stating that her position is rooted in humanity, peace, freedom, and the rights of oppressed people.
Barrera made it clear that she does not believe in silence when injustice is taking place. She said that when people around the world are in urgent need of support and a voice, staying quiet is not an option.
She reaffirmed her commitment to continue speaking in favour of Gaza and the Palestinian people in the future as well.
The actress also shared that she is now focusing on building her own production company to strengthen her creative independence. Through this platform, she aims to collaborate with filmmakers, writers, and artists who take a bold and clear stance on the Palestine issue.
Barrera added that while her political and humanitarian views have led to professional setbacks in the mainstream film industry, she is not willing to compromise on her principles.
According to her, true success is not defined by fame alone, but by standing firm for what one believes is right.
