The Punjab government has taken a major decision regarding rising public welfare expenditures and directed development authorities, Parks and Horticulture Authorities (PHA), Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) and waste management companies to transfer their deposits to the provincial government.
According to official instructions, all concerned institutions have been directed to transfer all funds to the Punjab government, except those required for salaries, pensions and emergency expenditures.
The move has been taken to provide public relief in areas such as transport and other services, as well as to manage public welfare-related spending, amid challenges in achieving the set revenue targets.
The provincial government has also sought repayment schedules for outstanding loans from the said institutions.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Zaman Akhtar in Lahore.
The meeting also decided to tighten financial discipline across all departments and instructed institutions to eliminate unnecessary expenditures and ensure maximum savings of public resources.
