Freelancers earn $856 million in nine months

Pakistan’s IT sector continues to show sustained growth and stability, driven by reform measures and policy continuity under the Special Investment Facilitation Council, officials and industry representatives said.

According to available data, Pakistani freelancers earned $856 million by the third quarter of fiscal year 2025–26, marking a 50 per cent increase in foreign exchange inflows. This reflects a rise of $289 million compared to $567 million recorded during the same period last year.

Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, Ibrahim Amin, said thousands of individuals are entering the freelancing market every month through public and private training programmes. He noted that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Pakistan Software Export Board, and SIFC are playing a key role in creating a conducive environment for freelancers.

Former chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association, Zohaib Khan, said the country’s IT sector has witnessed notable progress over the past three years following the establishment of SIFC.

He added that recent measures by the State Bank of Pakistan have facilitated IT exporters, freelancers, and startups, contributing to consistent year-on-year growth in IT exports under a stable policy framework.
