Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has opened up about a challenging period in his life following his divorce from his first wife Reena Dutta, revealing that he developed a habit of alcohol consumption during that time, according to media reports.
In a recent reflection on his personal life, the “3 Idiots” actor said the period after his separation was emotionally very difficult for him. He shared that he had never been a drinker before, but circumstances changed after his wife left home with their children, leaving him alone.
Aamir Khan said alcohol was available at home for guests, and he decided to try it one night, which gradually developed into a habit. He added that for about a year and a half, he would drink almost every night, calling it a significant shift for someone who had never consumed alcohol before.
The actor said the breakdown of his marriage was difficult for both families, but he tried to handle the situation with maturity and eventually moved forward in both his personal and professional life.
He described that phase as an emotionally vulnerable period following the end of his marriage, calling it one of the weaker moments of his life.
Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta in 1986 at the age of 21, and the couple separated in 2002 after 16 years of marriage. They have two children, Ira and Junaid.
After his divorce, he married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, but the couple announced their separation in 2021 and continue to co-parent their son Azad.
In March 2025, ahead of his 60th birthday, Aamir Khan publicly introduced his partner Gauri Spratt and has since been seen with her at various events.
