It has been revealed that the federal government granted tax exemptions amounting to Rs4,975 billion over the past two fiscal years.
According to sources, during the fiscal years 2022–23 and 2023–24, the government extended exemptions worth Rs1,022 billion under income tax to various sectors, while large industrial groups received Rs2,757 billion in sales tax exemptions.
In addition, customs duty exemptions amounted to Rs1,195 billion over the two-year period. The energy and mining sectors were provided relief worth Rs103.47 billion, while housing and public development authorities received Rs432.8 million. The education sector was given Rs17 billion, and the information technology sector received Rs5.86 billion in exemptions.
Sources further indicated that the health and pharmaceutical sectors were granted Rs3.49 billion in relief during the same period. Fertilizer and agriculture sectors benefited from Rs457.92 billion in sales tax exemptions, while power generation companies received Rs5.77 billion in sales tax relief. The health and medical equipment sector was also granted exemptions totaling Rs313.66 billion.
