Ali Zafar thanks God after winning defamation case

Pakistani singer and actor Ali Zafar has expressed gratitude to Almighty following his legal victory in a defamation case against fellow singer Meesha Shafi, concluding an eight-year-long high-profile court battle.

The case, decided on March 31, ended in Ali Zafar’s favour after the court observed that Meesha Shafi did not appear in proceedings and failed to present sufficient evidence to support her allegations, while the plaintiff produced witnesses in support of his claims.

Two days after the verdict, Ali Zafar broke his silence via a post on Instagram, stating that he was grateful to God and to those who stood by him during what he described as one of the most difficult periods of his life.

He added that he does not view the outcome as a moment of celebration but rather one of humility and gratitude. According to him, the matter has now come to a close, and he harbours no negative feelings toward anyone involved.

Ali Zafar further expressed hope that all parties move forward with dignity and peace.

Earlier, a Lahore court had ruled in his favour and ordered Meesha Shafi to pay damages amounting to 5 million rupees.

The defamation suit was filed in 2018 after Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of harassment, a case that later became one of Pakistan’s most prominent MeToo-related legal battles.
