Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to remove individuals who have illegally obtained Pakistani citizenship from the national database.
The directive was issued during a visit to the National Database and Registration Authority headquarters, where the chairman briefed the minister on the institution’s performance, ongoing initiatives, and future plans. The interior minister appreciated NADRA’s efficiency and public service delivery.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi instructed officials to identify and delete records of those who have fraudulently acquired citizenship from the national database.
He noted that NADRA’s services have significantly improved over the past two years and emphasized that modern, state-of-the-art offices should be constructed on owned land rather than rented premises. He also sought a master plan in this regard.
The minister assured full cooperation at the ministerial level and with relevant institutions to support NADRA’s initiatives.
According to the briefing, NADRA has undertaken several measures to improve citizen services, including the cancellation of identity cards of hundreds of thousands of deceased individuals. A 30-day timeframe has been set for resolving CNIC-related issues, while coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is ongoing to block mobile SIMs registered under the names of deceased persons.
Officials also highlighted that the implementation of facial recognition-based biometric verification requires collaboration with other institutions.
