Pakistan, China stress quick start of Iran-US dialogues

Pakistan and China have jointly called for the early initiation of dialogue between Iran and the United States, emphasizing diplomacy as the only viable path to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf and Middle East.

The call came during a meeting in Beijing between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where both sides reviewed the evolving regional situation and presented a five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability.

According to an official statement, the two sides stressed the need for the start of peace talks “as soon as possible,” underscoring that sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security of Iran and Gulf states must be respected. They also urged all parties to refrain from the use or threat of force.

Pakistan and China called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and emphasized efforts to prevent further escalation, while ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches all affected areas.

The two countries also highlighted the importance of protecting civilians and non-military infrastructure, urging adherence to international humanitarian law and calling for an end to attacks on critical facilities, including energy and nuclear infrastructure.

Both sides stressed the need to safeguard key maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, to ensure safe passage of commercial shipping and maintain stability in global energy supplies.

Reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism, Pakistan and China emphasized the primacy of the United Nations Charter and called for collective efforts to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace framework in the region. — LORD
