Oscars to shift venue and go digital from 2029

The world’s most prestigious film honours, the Academy Awards, are set to enter a new era from 2029 with major changes planned in venue and broadcasting format, according to international media reports.

For decades, the ceremony has been held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. However, beginning in 2029, the event will be relocated to the downtown entertainment complex L.A. Live, a larger and more modern venue.

The ceremony is expected to take place at the Peacock Theater within L.A. Live, although reports suggest the venue’s name may be changed in the future.

The shift aims to consolidate all major components of the event including the red carpet, main stage, media coverage, and after-parties into a single location, making the ceremony more streamlined and visually grand.

Organisers also plan to expand capacity for audiences and guests, allowing more attendees to experience the high-profile event up close.

In another significant development, the Oscars will move toward digital accessibility. From 2029 onward, the ceremony will be streamed globally for free on YouTube, while viewers in the United States will also be able to watch it via YouTube TV.
