Rahat Fateh Ali Khan calls for more music platforms in Pakistan

Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has urged authorities to promote emerging musical talent by providing more platforms, saying Pakistan is rich in talent that only needs proper exposure.

Speaking at an ceremony held at the Palace of Westminster, where he launched a Bengali song, the celebrated artist stressed the need for initiatives similar to Pakistan Idol to nurture young singers.

The song, titled “Tumi Amar Prem Piyasha,” has been composed by British Asian artist Raja Kashif and features a collaboration with British Bengali singer Ruba Ayat Jahan.

The event was attended by prominent British parliamentarians, including Tariq Ahmad, Ruth Cadbury, Afzal Khan, Adam Patel and Afsana Begum, among others, who paid tribute to the singer’s contributions to music.

On the occasion, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his son Shah Zaman Khan were presented with awards in recognition of their outstanding performances in their respective fields.

The maestro said performing in Bangladesh had always been a memorable experience due to the immense love he receives from audiences there.

Recalling his recent performance at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, he said the audience responded enthusiastically to popular numbers such as “Sanson Ki Mala,” “Jhule Jhule Lal” and “Dam Mast Qalandar.”

He described receiving an award at the UK Parliament as a proud moment, attributing his success to the prayers of his parents and years of dedication.

Meanwhile, Ruba Ayat Jahan termed it an honour to collaborate with the legendary singer, praising his accurate pronunciation of Bengali lyrics and his expression of love for Bangladesh through music.

The event organisers highlighted that the collaboration symbolises the idea that music transcends borders, marking a significant moment in cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
