Chinese envoy calls on PM Shehbaz, both sides reaffirm commitment to CPEC 2.0

Ambassador of China to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong on Thursday called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under its second phase.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s House, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and the foreign secretary, according to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The prime minister congratulated the Chinese leadership on the successful conclusion of the “Two Sessions” and conveyed appreciation to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for their warm greetings on Pakistan Day.

Appreciating China’s continued economic support, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing CPEC 2.0, with a focus on agriculture, industrial cooperation and priority infrastructure projects.

Ambassador Jiang commended Pakistan’s economic resilience and reform efforts, and reiterated China’s continued support, particularly in the areas of trade and investment. Both sides expressed satisfaction over ongoing exchanges and agreed to maintain high-level engagements to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional stability and de-escalation while discussing the broader regional situation.

He emphasized the importance of continued close coordination at all levels on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming the enduring nature of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. — LORD
