China urges urgent steps for two-state solution at UN Security Council

China has called on the international community to take “irreversible steps” toward advancing the two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, warning that the foundation of a viable peace framework is under increasing strain amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council briefing, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, said the Palestinian question risks being further marginalized as regional tensions continue to escalate, with severe consequences for both regional stability and the global economy.

He stressed that the international community must demonstrate strong political will to achieve what he described as a comprehensive, just, and lasting settlement to the Palestinian question.

Fu called for an immediate end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging all parties, particularly Israel, to comply with ceasefire commitments and ensure unrestricted humanitarian access. He also called for full protection of aid operations, including those carried out by UN agencies such as UNRWA.

He further stated that settlement activities in occupied territories constitute violations of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2334, urging an immediate halt to such actions and accountability for attacks on civilians.

According to Fu, there is no alternative to the two-state solution, which he described as the only widely recognized and viable path forward. He emphasized that Gaza and the West Bank must remain integral parts of a future Palestinian state, rejecting unilateral measures that could undermine that framework.

He added that the United Nations has a central responsibility in facilitating progress toward a political settlement and reiterated China’s readiness to work with international partners to achieve a lasting ceasefire and broader regional peace.
