Kashif Khan shares tips to cut wedding expenses

Pakistani comedian Kashif Khan has shared practical advice on reducing wedding expenses, particularly for daughters’ marriages, urging families to balance traditions with financial responsibility.

Speaking during a private TV Ramadan transmission, Kashif said that while weddings are emotional occasions and families naturally wish to fulfil their desires, it is equally important to keep spending under control.

Responding to a question about managing wedding costs, he suggested avoiding expensive outfits and jewellery, noting that designer dresses and even gold and silver ornaments are now available on rent.

“Fulfil your wishes, but also be mindful of expenses,” he said, adding that unnecessary spending can be avoided with better planning.

On the tradition of giving gifts to the groom’s family, Kashif said his own family had clearly divided responsibilities during his daughter’s wedding. “What was the groom’s responsibility, they handled it, and what was ours, we fulfilled,” he explained, adding that the old practice of providing clothes for extended relatives is gradually fading.

He further pointed out that combining events such as mehndi and wedding into a single ceremony — often referred to as “Shendi” — can significantly reduce costs.

Kashif’s remarks come in the backdrop of discussions surrounding the wedding of his daughter Rabeca Khan, which had drawn criticism on social media over multiple events and perceived lavish spending.

He concluded by encouraging families to adopt simpler, more practical approaches to weddings in line with changing social trends.
