PM assigns IB to monitor austerity campaign across government

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has tasked the Intelligence Bureau (IB) with overseeing the implementation of the government’s austerity campaign across federal ministries, divisions, and autonomous bodies.

A notification issued by the government states that the IB will also monitor compliance in the National Assembly and Senate secretariats. The bureau is required to submit weekly reports on the progress of austerity measures to the Prime Minister and the relevant monitoring committee.

The notification comes as part of the government’s broader drive to ensure full compliance with cost-saving measures. PM Shahbaz Sharif has instructed that 100% implementation of the national austerity campaign be ensured.

Earlier, during a review meeting on public relief measures, the Prime Minister emphasized that economic stability and relief for the public remain the government’s top priorities. He noted that timely decisions have ensured adequate petroleum supplies in the country and that measures to promote fiscal discipline and savings at the national level are already being implemented, with further initiatives underway.
