Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has strongly criticized the team’s selection committee following Pakistan national cricket team’s defeat in the ODI series against the Bangladesh national cricket team.
In a video message shared on social media, Afridi said the selection committee should reflect on the team’s failure, particularly after the recent ICC Cricket World Cup.
He said the selectors appeared uncertain about which players should lead the team in different formats of the game. According to Afridi, several experienced players with strong ODI performances were sidelined under the pretext of “team surgery” based on T20 results.
The former captain also criticized the practice of bringing new players into the national side after only a limited number of first-class matches, saying the domestic structure has not been strong enough to consistently produce players ready for international cricket.
Afridi added that if changes were necessary, they should be made within the selection committee rather than the team itself, arguing that the current approach had weakened the side instead of improving it.
