Pakistan’s Junior tennis stars to compete at orange bowl in Miami

Pakistan’s young tennis talents are in Miami, Florida, representing the country at the Junior Orange Bowl International Championships, one of the world’s most prestigious junior tennis competitions, taking place from December 12 to 17.

Shayan Afridi earned direct entry into the 12-and-under main draw, while Rashid Ali received a main-draw wildcard from the Asian Tennis Federation in recognition of his strong performances throughout the year. Both players qualified for this elite event following Pakistan’s victory at the Asian 12-and-under Team Championship in May 2025, a sixth-place finish at the Asian Finals in Singapore, and fifth place at the Intercontinental Finals in Kazakhstan.

Rising talent Mikaeel Ali Baig is also competing in the 16-and-under category, having secured his place through consistent results during the 2025 season.

Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi expressed pride in the players’ achievements, saying, “Three Pakistani players are participating for the first time in this prestigious event, which is a great honour. I competed here in 1997, and it is heartening to see our young players carry the national flag forward. I am hopeful they will make the nation proud.”

PTF officials thanked the US Consulate General–Lahore for facilitating visas on short notice, the BARD Foundation for sponsoring the trip, and the Asian Tennis Federation for granting Rashid Ali the wildcard. The PTF Secretary-General also extended best wishes, highlighting the significance of competing at the Junior Orange Bowl and expressing confidence in the players’ performances.
