ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the President and Prime Minister regarding the non-approval of a summary concerning judges’ appointments, seeking a response from the federal government and the Ministry of Law.
These notices were issued in response to a petition against the non-approval of the summary by President Asif Ali Zardari. The court has ordered the Ministry of Law to respond by tomorrow.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir expressed displeasure with the federal government, stating that there seems to be a lack of interest in the matter. He inquired about the stage at which the summary is stalled.
Lawyer Zahid Asif Chaudhry informed the court that the Constitution clearly states that the President cannot indefinitely withhold the summary. The Additional Attorney General mentioned that the President can no longer reject the summary.
The court has adjourned the hearing, demanding a response from the federal government by tomorrow, and has issued a written order. A notice has also been issued to the Attorney General for judicial assistance.
