Iran welcomes shift in regional security thinking

TEHRAN (Lord Media): Iran has characterized the recent defense agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye as a sign of changing perspectives regarding the United States in the region. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that the defense cooperation among these three key regional countries indicates a new approach to security matters.

According to Iranian news agency Fars, Baghaei remarked that over the past three years, regional countries have realized that security cannot be purchased from ‘false or fake intermediaries.’ He emphasized that these countries have learned from experience that realistic and regionally viable measures are essential for regional security, rather than complete reliance on external powers.

Baghaei further noted that any plan considering ground realities and accurately identifying threats could aid in establishing security and preventing instability in the region. He added that such measures could also help protect the region from instability stemming from the Israeli threat.

The recent defense cooperation between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye is being viewed as a significant development in the context of the changing security landscape in the region. The Iranian spokesperson’s statement suggests that Tehran sees this agreement not merely as defense cooperation among three countries but also as significant in the broader context of regional security and political changes.

Analysts consider Iran’s response important, given that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye maintain various defense, political, and economic relations with the United States, yet are enhancing mutual cooperation for regional security. According to the Iranian stance, strengthening defense capabilities and mutual cooperation among regional countries could reduce dependency on external powers. However, the practical and long-term effects of this agreement will become clearer in the coming days.
