Missing Indian marine engineer’s body recovered near Oman

MUSCAT (Lord Media): The body of an Indian marine engineer, who went missing after a commercial vessel was attacked near the coast of Oman, has been recovered. The Indian maritime workers’ union has expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

The 30-year-old Hiramb Karmarkar, hailing from Pune, India, was serving as a marine engineer on the Cyprus-flagged commercial vessel GFS Galaxy.

Hiramb Karmarkar went missing on Sunday following an attack on the vessel near the Omani coast, prompting rescue operations to locate him.

Manoj Yadav from the Forward Seamen’s Union of India stated that on Tuesday evening, the operating company informed that the Omani Coast Guard had recovered Hiramb Karmarkar’s body.

The complete nature of the attack, the responsible parties, and further details of the incident remain unclear, but relevant authorities are investigating.

Rising tensions around the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz have heightened security concerns for commercial vessels, drawing concern from the global maritime industry.
