Turkey detains thousands of illegal Afghan migrants

ANKARA (Lord Media): A large-scale crackdown on illegal migrants is underway in Turkey, with Afghan nationals topping the list of those detained. According to the latest report from the Migration Department, 70,000 illegal migrants have been arrested in the first six months of this year, including 19,574 Afghan refugees.

United Nations statistics show that over 13,000 Afghan citizens have been deported from Turkey in the first five months of this year.

According to Khama Press, economic downturn, unemployment, and gender restrictions under the Taliban regime are driving Afghans to migrate. Despite challenges and crackdowns, Afghan migrants continue to use Turkey as a route to Europe.

Global experts have warned that illegal migration under the guise of human trafficking and crime poses a threat to host countries. They stated that the crisis will persist as long as the Taliban regime remains in Afghanistan.
